Materials & Performance FAQ
1.What's the difference between Fresnel and standard ALR screens?
Both are ambient light rejecting, but work differently:
Fresnel ALR Screens (Our Offering):
● Technology: Concentric prism structure
● Light Rejection: Rejects light from top, left, and right
● Best For: Rooms with ceiling lights, windows on sides
● Viewing Angle: 140°+
● Performance: 83-94% ambient light rejection
Standard ALR (Black Grid/Lenticular):
● Technology: Horizontal sawtooth or lenticular lenses
● Light Rejection: Good against ceiling light, weaker against side light
● Best For: Rooms with primarily ceiling light sources
● Viewing Angle: 120-150°
Winner for Most US Homes: Fresnel (better all-around performance)
2.What's the difference between white and gray screens?
Color choice affects brightness and contrast:
White Screens:
● Advantage: Brighter image (higher gain)
● Best For: Dark rooms, maximizing brightness
● Trade-off: Lower contrast in ambient light
Gray Screens:
● Advantage: Higher contrast in ambient light
● Best For: Rooms with some ambient light
● Trade-off: Slightly dimmer (lower gain)
Gray Photon (Our Middle Ground):
● Combines moderate gain with good contrast
● Balanced performance for most living rooms
● Best if you can't decide between white/gray
3.Will this work with my projector?
Our screens work with all major projector brands:
Compatible Brands:
● Epson, BenQ, Sony, Optoma, XGIMI, Anker, JMGO, etc.
Key Considerations:
1. Throw Distance: Match screen size to your projector's throw ratio
2. Aspect Ratio: Choose 16:9 for most home projectors
3. Resolution: Our screens support 4K, 8K, and beyond
4. Light Output: Brighter projectors benefit from ambient light rejection
Unsure? Email us your projector model. We'll verify compatibility and recommend the best material.
4.What viewing angle do I need?
Depends on your seating arrangement:
Wide Viewing Angle (160°+):
● Good for: Large rooms, off-axis seating
● Trade-off: Slightly lower gain
● Best Material: White Photon/Gray Photon
Narrow Viewing Angle (120-140°):
● Good for: Dedicated theater, center seating
● Benefit: Higher gain (brighter image)
● Best Material: Fresnel ALR (high gain)
Rule of Thumb: More seating flexibility = wider viewing angle needed.
5.How do I clean the screen?
Proper cleaning extends screen life:
DO:
● Use microfiber cloth
● Gently wipe in straight lines
● Dust with soft brush attachment (vacuum)
● Spot-clean stains with water/mild soap
DON'T:
● Use paper towels (can scratch)
● Use harsh chemicals (Windex, alcohol)
● Press hard on the surface
● Use abrasive materials
